Getting the job:
- Your resume and what the career center doesn't know
- college grads are functionally worthless; don't sell yourself on knowledge, but on work ethic and potential (subsumed)
- don't even think you can negotiate (subsumed)

What to learn before you leave school:
- Learn to write
- learn to listen
- learn basic computer skills
- make sure you know excel
- what you learned in college will only cover one year's worth of a job
On the job:
- the most important skills - people, communication, and managing relationships - have never been taught to you
- intelligence is malleable
- be professional
- don't ever date anyone at work
- how to work with your boss
- find a mentor
- health insurance
- take vacations - working all the time is not the key to being successful
- raises and promotions
- get involved in hiring
Living life:
- relocating to a new city (find a base, get a map, establish transportation, secure resource points)
- what you do when you get an apartment for the first time (toilet paper, lights)
- get enough sleep
- learn to deal with stress
- a filing system
- finances: budgeting, saving, 401(k)s, taxes(SEP), student loans, credit cards
- two gender roles everyone need to break: cars and cooking
- you don't need to sort your laundry
- visiting your parents: don't fall into old behaviors, don't live at home while visiting
- don't go back and live with your parents
Advancement:
- Becoming a manager
- Advancing without becoming a managers
